SYUNIK

Syunik region is located in the southern part of Armenia. Historically the region was known as Syunia, Sisakan and Zangezur. In fact, Syunik is considered to be the richest industrial region of Armenia. The largest river is the Vorotan, the highest mountain is Kaputjukh (3,904).

The regional center of Syunik is Kapan, also known as Ghapan. So much loved by Armenian hikers Mount Khustup rises above Kapan and beautifies the panorama of the city.

The undeniable treasure of Syunik is Tatev Monastery, which was built in 895. The Monastery of Tatev was the cultural center of Armenia for a long time and now it is one of the must-see places in Armenia. In 1995 the monastery of Tatev was included in the tentative list of the World Heritage Sites of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
